Sport is a series of storms;
most of them are emotional.
I teach athletes WHAT to do
with HOW they FEEL.
I teach them to HANDLE their feelings
rather than being HANDLED.
Sport teaches us NOT to talk about FEELINGS, yet every time your athlete steps on the court, the ice, the field, the track, the pool, or the snow, FEELINGS are everywhere.

And many are uncomfortable: nerves, doubt, worry, anger, sadness, disappointment, lack of confidence.
Sport teaches us to avoid these feelings.

Coaches say, "Fake it till you make it."
Parents say, "You got this."
Avoiding, suppressing, and hiding from emotions
leaves athletes feeling lost, confused, and alone.

It's time to CALM THE STORM.
I teach athletes to manage the EMOTIONAL storms.
I'm Shawnee, a 2X Olympian
and Mental Toughness Coach.
-
I don't teach "toughen up"
-
I don't teach "suck it up buttercup"
-
I don't teach "get out there and be confident"
I help athletes shift from:
-
Cautious to courageous
-
Timid to tenacious
-
Doubtful to decisive
-
Grumpy to gritty
-
Nervous to knowing
They learn to FACE their feelings, ALL of them; especially their FEARS.
These are the skills your athlete needs to handle the emotional storms.
When your athletes' toolkit is full of emotional intelligence and self-awareness, they learn to save themselves from the storm.
They know WHAT to do with HOW they FEEL.
These are the soft skills that are really hard. And they aren't just sport skills; they are life skills.
Sport tells us NOT to feel. I teach the opposite:
1. FACE IT
FACE the feeling and
what’s causing it.
2. SHIFT IT
SHIFT to thoughts that
make you feel strong.
3. CHOOSE IT
CHOOSE a courageous
action and do it.
