Lack
confidence.
Give up when
things get tough.
Engage in
negative self-talk.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many parents watch their athlete struggle
when the thunder and lightning strikes.
You need an expert to help your athlete calm the storms.
So they can:
Compete with
confidence.

self-critic.
Battle through
adversity.
MEET YOUR 2X OLYMPIAN AND MENTAL TOUGHNESS COACH
Hi, my name is Shawnee.
As an elite athlete back in the day, I had no idea about the mental game.
I thought the answer was more; more training, more practicing, more skill sessions, and more workouts.
Anything to overcome my nerves and worrry:
-
Nervous I wasn’t good enough; that others would pass me.
-
Worried about what others were thinking; that I would be overlooked by coaches and recruiters.

I didn't know how to calm the emotional storms; more
training/practicing didn't help.

As a Mental Toughness Coach my job description is clear:
-
I storm-proof athletes.
-
I teach them what to do with how they FEEL.
-
I help them CALM the STORM.
It's time to solve the right problem.
Until your athlete learns what to do with nerves, fear, worry, disappointment, and lack of confidence, all the technical coaching in the world won't save them from the storm.

When the pressure rises and the stakes are high, their emotions will take over.
They will melt.
They will hide.
They will choke.
Their emotions will stop them
from reaching their goals.

When are the Zoom calls?Zoom calls are the last Sunday of each month at 5:30 pm PST/8:30 pm EST. Calls are scheduled for 60 minutes but Shawnee stays on the call until everyone's questions have been answered and their problems have been solved. Calls sometimes last over 1.5 hours (there are lots of problems to be solved) but you are free to come and go as you please. You can find the Zoom details and the link in the private Facebook group.

What is Mental Toughness?Mental Toughness includes the following: 1) Emotional Intelligence: sport teaches us NOT to listen to our thoughts and feelings (except the good ones). But what should your athlete do with the negative thoughts, the anxious and nervous feelings? What about the voice of self-doubt? Emotional Intelligence means your athlete acknowledges, understands and manages their thoughts and feelings. 2) Courage: It's different than confidence. Confidence is an emotion, based on results. Courage is an action; it's a choice. Your athlete can choose to do something courageous even when they lack confidence. Sport is a series of storms, and most of them are emotional. Emotional Intelligence + Courage will help your athlete manage the thunder and lightning and save themselves from the storms that sport (and life) always bring.

What questions can I ask Shawnee? Here are examples of questions that parents ask: How do I help my kids: Compete harder and play with more confidence? Handle pressure? Handle a coach that yells, lectures, and punishes? Handle sitting on the bench? Handle mistakes, setbacks, and failures? Handle irritating teammates? How do I handle the stress I feel when I'm watching my kids compete? What should I say/not say in the car ride home? What should I say/not say before an important game or competition? What should I say/not say when I see my kids struggling? The goal is to equip you to support your athlete along their journey. Shawnee is here to help and support, and is open to all your questions.

How do the calls work?Calls are 50 minutes and I spend the first half with your athlete because they tell me things they won't say when you are listening. I spend the second half with you (I get to coach you too!). We debrief and I offer suggestions that will help you support your athlete. Your athlete will have "homework". I will give them one Mental Toughness tool to use and sharpen before our next call. You can book calls anytime you want, as long as you use all 6 within 6 months.

How old does my athlete need to be for 1:1 Coaching? My youngest client is a 7 year old hockey player and my oldest client is a 50 year old pickle ball player. I work with athletes of all ages, from all sports. PS: Young athletes are far more capable than you think. I have LOTS of experience helping them handle their storms.

How far in advance must I book calls? If you book 7 days in advance, you almost always get the day/time you want. Openings frequently pop up so you might even be able to book the day of or the following day. I purposely have evenings and weekends open to suit your busy schedule. In other words, I'M AVAILABLE at a date/time that suits you. And if your call is urgent, I guarantee I will fit you in.
